SEPTEMBER TOPIC

Book and City

Books show us so many different paths. LHM for September followed books to different cities. Kim Hee-eun, director of Gallery Cartina and author of the book <Stories of Russian Paintings, Richer than Galleries>, takes you through State Tretyakov Gallery, one of Russia’s top art museums. Sometimes, the culture of a city starts in bookstores. We visited two local bookstores that help grow the urban culture in Hanoi. How about a time travel as you view paintings of books? Chaekgado, which depicted books and other tools of study for scholars, was a popular genre of paintings during the Joseon Dynasty. Even as the very existence of books has come into question, artist Lee Jung-eun has been giving us contemporary renditions of chaekgado.
